The Compassion Tour: Connecting Communities, Amplifying Change
At Barn Sanctuary, we believe compassion creates abundance — that when one organization succeeds, the entire movement moves forward. Last fall, we launched the Barn Sanctuary Compassion Tour, a nationwide initiative to connect with mission-aligned advocates, uplift animal rights, plant-based advocacy, and climate-justice work, and celebrate the people creating compassionate change in their communities.
Our first stops were Seattle and Portland, where we met extraordinary individuals and organizations working every day toward a kinder, more sustainable world.
Seattle: Compassion in Action in the Emerald City
Our time in Seattle was filled with connection, community, and truly exceptional vegan food. We enjoyed unforgettable meals at Kati Vegan Thai — where the Garlic Jackfruit easily stole the show — and at Samurai Sushi, where creativity, flavor, and compassion came together beautifully on every plate.
Another profound highlight of our Seattle visit was our time at Rooster Haus Rescue, a sanctuary just outside the city doing extraordinary work for birds rescued from neglect, abandonment, and cruelty. Founder Jenny shared deeply meaningful stories. Her work reflects a standard and integrity all sanctuaries can aspire to — a true gold standard in bird rescue and rehabilitation.
A Night of Community at Life on Mars
Our Seattle visit was beautifully anchored by our Meet & Greet at Life on Mars, a venue that perfectly embodies the creative, warm, inclusive energy of the city. The moment we stepped inside, we felt the cool, electric vibe that makes this space so beloved — walls lined with vinyl records, cozy lighting, and a fully plant-based menu that mirrors the spirit of compassion we’re working to uplift.
The Life on Mars team didn’t just host us — they embraced us. They were genuinely excited to welcome Barn Sanctuary supporters and helped create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that encouraged conversation and connection. Supporters mingled with animal-welfare advocates, climate-justice organizers, plant-based food innovators, authors, and community members committed to building a kinder world.
We were honored to be joined by Samuel Baca-Henry, author and storyteller (samuel-baca-henry.com), whose work explores themes of identity, justice, and compassionate possibility. His presence added a powerful creative voice to the evening and reflected the diverse ecosystem of people contributing to a more humane future.
We were also grateful to welcome Hannah from the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN), who shared important updates about their legislative and advocacy work, including their campaign to challenge and reform Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs).

With free vegan bites and a room full of people united by purpose, the event felt energized and hopeful — a reminder that compassion grows strongest through community.
Portland: Voices for the Voiceless
From Seattle, we traveled to Portland, where we were welcomed by a vibrant community full of passion for sustainability, vegan resources, and justice.
We indulged in some of the best plant-based cheese in the region at Vtopian Artisan Cheese, where creativity shines through every handcrafted flavor.
Our time in Portland culminated in a “Brunch with Barn,” a free vegan gathering that brought supporters, advocates, and local leaders together for conversation, connection, and community-building.
We were honored to be joined by Lilli DiPaola of Food & Water Watch, who shared updates on their powerful work advancing climate-justice efforts and fighting for a more equitable food system.

We were also grateful to connect with Rajesh Reddy, Director of the Animal Law Program at Lewis & Clark Law School. Through the Animal Law Clinic, Rajesh and his students are shaping the future of animal protection by advancing legal frameworks that challenge systems of animal exploitation. His work powerfully illustrates how law and compassion can work hand-in-hand to create systemic change.

And finally — a special preview: we met with the founder of Earthly Gourmet, a mission-aligned vegan food distributor whose deep commitment to compassionate and sustainable food systems left a lasting impression.

A Movement of Abundance
The Compassion Tour is more than a series of events — it’s a celebration of collaboration over competition, grounded in the belief that compassion grows when we uplift one another. It is about meeting the people who make this work possible, amplifying their voices, and uniting around the shared belief that we can build a kinder world together.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who welcomed us in Seattle and Portland — from longtime Barn supporters and volunteers to the sanctuaries, activists, legal scholars, and mission-aligned businesses doing the daily work of compassion.
This is only the beginning. Future stops on the Compassion Tour will continue strengthening partnerships, sharing stories, and bridging communities committed to compassionate living.
Because together, we’re not just saving lives — we’re making a more compassionate and healthy world.
