Who We Are

Mission

Barn Sanctuary rescues farmed animals and inspires people to embrace a plant-based lifestyle.

Vision

We envision a world in which farmed animals are seen as individuals who are treated with compassion and where plant-based, sustainable alternatives replace the use of animals for food and products.

Values

What We Do

  • Saving Lives & Spreading Love

We rescue farmed animals from cases of abuse and neglect. We provide them a safe haven where they may live out their natural lives surrounded by the care and love they deserve.

  • Care & Shelter

Rescued animals are rehabilitated and nursed back to health. We give each animal in our care the highest possible quality of life with top-notch medical care and enriched, clean and safe living environments. We work with other sanctuaries to rescue and re-home animals when we can’t take them in ourselves.

  • Educate & Advocate

We show farmed animals in a new light, highlighting their individuality by sharing their unique stories. We educate the public about the treatment of animals raised for human consumption and the consequences for the animals, ourselves, and the environment of factory farming on a mass scale.

Impact

Barn Sanctuary is almost always at or near full capacity — and that's by design. Every animal in our care receives individualized attention, medical support, safe housing, and a lifelong home. Honoring that promise means being honest about our limits.

When space occasionally opens, we thoughtfully evaluate each potential intake based on urgency, the animal's needs, and our capacity to provide exceptional care without compromising the residents already in our family.

Wanting to save every animal is one of the deepest aches of sanctuary work. But our greatest responsibility is to the ones already here — and that means making decisions that are both compassionate and sustainable.

Beyond our gates, we continue to advocate, educate, and collaborate with other sanctuaries and rescuers to extend our reach as far as we possibly can.

There are 11 billion animals in the US Factory Farm system and we care about them as much as our on-site family.  If you want to make a difference try going "plant-based" one day a week.  At the end of the year - you will have "saved" or reduced the demand for 29 farmed animals.  That's a very impactful return for your investment of one plant-based day per week.

“We envision a world in which farmed animals are seen as individuals and treated with empathy and compassion.”
