Who We Are

Mission

Barn Sanctuary rescues farmed animals and inspires people to embrace a plant-based lifestyle.

Vision

We envision a world in which farmed animals are seen as individuals who are treated with compassion and where plant-based, sustainable alternatives replace the use of animals for food and products.

Values

  • Our fundamental belief is that all living beings deserve compassion. We put this belief into action by rescuing abused and neglected farmed animals and providing them with a loving forever home where they receive lifelong compassionate care based on kindness, respect, and safety. We inspire people to embrace compassion by refraining from consuming animal products, thus contributing to a more humane and just world for all living beings.

  • We value kindness, mutual respect, and inclusivity, creating a culture of meaningful belonging. We welcome everyone to join our mission and actively seek partnerships with others to leverage shared learning and growth. We cultivate a caring and collaborative environment that promotes positive change in our food system and inspires others to adopt a plant-based lifestyle.

  • We hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity, prioritizing honesty, empathy, and constructive communication in all aspects of our work. We continuously evaluate and seek to improve our impact in the community and care for our animal residents, while ensuring operational excellence and good stewardship of donated funds. Our commitment to integrity drives us to be accountable and transparent in everything we do.

  • We inspire people to consider their own eating habits by educating them about the impact eating meat, dairy, and eggs can have on farmed animals and the environment. Our educational programs introduce youth and adults to the plight of farmed animals in an unjust food system and highlight the individuality of farmed animals by allowing them to get to know our residents. We also teach people about the impact of industrial animal agriculture on climate change, farmworkers, and personal health.

What We Do

  • Saving Lives & Spreading Love

We rescue farmed animals from cases of abuse and neglect. We provide them a safe haven where they may live out their natural lives surrounded by the care and love they deserve.

  • Care & Shelter

Rescued animals are rehabilitated and nursed back to health. We give each animal in our care the highest possible quality of life with top-notch medical care and enriched, clean and safe living environments. We work with other sanctuaries to rescue and re-home animals when we can’t take them in ourselves.

  • Educate & Advocate

We show farmed animals in a new light, highlighting their individuality by sharing their unique stories. We educate the public about the treatment of animals raised for human consumption and the consequences for the animals, ourselves, and the environment of factory farming on a mass scale.

Impact

We are currently at full capacity for most of our species but the need to rescue abused animals is so great that we get numerous calls a week from local law enforcement units, humane societies, or just concerned citizens about a farmed animal in some sort of trouble. When we are not able to take in the animal ourselves, we don’t abandon them but reach out to a network of other sanctuaries and micro-sanctuaries to find a forever home where they can live in peace and security.

“We envision a world in which farmed animals are seen as individuals and treated with empathy and compassion.”
