She has been integral to the passage of several laws, including, most recently, the Big Cat Public Safety Act, which the President signed into law in 2022.

Alicia has an extensive background in farmed animal protection issues, previously working on public policy for farmed animal welfare at the Humane Society of the United States and then as a farmed animal policy associate at the Animal Welfare Institute. At both organizations, she advanced protections for farmed animals in several different states and contributed to the passage of ballot initiatives in Massachusetts and Rhode Island banning the extreme confinement of animals in industrial animal agriculture. Before beginning her career in the animal protection movement, Alicia worked to pass environmental and conservation legislation with the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.

Alicia holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Western Michigan University-Cooley Law School. In 2016, she received the Wanda A. Nash Award from the State Bar of Michigan Animal Law Section for advancing animal law in the state.

Erin Brown

  • Oakley, UT

It is always all about the animals for Erin and has been forever. Even back when she was growing up Erin would collect animals that needed refuge. Kittens and dogs, chickens and rabbits, goats and horses. And to this day not a thing has changed. Erin’s life is filled with rescue animals of all shapes and sizes. But her passion lies with horses, mustangs in particular. There is nothing that gets Erin more fired up than animals in need of advocacy. This passion to be an active part of making the world around her better has led her to the Board of Barn Sanctuary. Erin deeply believes that interactions with farmed animals truly can change hearts, minds and diets.

Erin has a Masters in Nutrition as well as a Masters in Public Health from the University of Utah. It was through her experiences studying in Africa and Central and South America that led Erin to become increasingly aware of the impact diet has on each of us individually, but also on the world around us. After learning how devastating large-scale animal agriculture is on the environment, how terribly abusive it is to the animals exploited in the system and how dangerous it is for our personal health, Erin was unwavering in her decision to become vegan. As a result, she is now living a gentler and more compassionate life, and makes efforts to encourage others to follow suit.

Erin spends the vast majority of her free time with her rescue animals. And there are a lot: two dogs, two cats, two rabbits, two guinea pigs, her five horses (two of which are mustangs) and one very opinionated mini mule. Plus of course her young daughter and husband. Erin deeply loves the outdoors and could spend her days wandering the wilderness with her family.
