Dan McKernan On The Rachel Ray Show

This Man Quit His Tech Job to Start an Animal Sanctuary and Has Rescued 100+ Animals From Maltreatment

Dan McKernan started his charity, Barn Sanctuary, to make use of an old family farm instead of selling it, and he's rescued over 100 animals from maltreatment.

"I started fundraising, I packed my bags, quit my job, and moved up to Michigan to run this animal sanctuary. We have over 110 animals. We have everything from donkeys, cows, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, 30 full-sized pigs, and barn cats," Dan says.

"Back in the day when I first started, it was just my dad and we were doing all the chores on the farm and also trying to put in fencing so we could put in even more animals. Fast forward four or five years, I now have 13 full-time staff members that help me run this organization," explains Dan.

"What I hope everyone can learn from Barn Sanctuary is that farm animals are unique, whether it's a chicken or a turkey or a goat. They feel emotions just like people do. By respecting farm animals every day, you can protect the Earth and really make a difference in this world," he explains.

Our friends at Arrowhead Mills are giving Dan $10,000 dollars so he can keep doing all of his amazing work!
