Welcome Lori: Barn’s New Executive Director. A Letter from Founder Dan McKernan.

I’m writing to share some exciting developments that mark a new chapter in Barn Sanctuary’s journey toward creating a more compassionate world for farmed animals.

After much reflection and thoughtful planning, I’ve made the decision to transition into a new role as Board Chair of Barn Sanctuary. As phases of life ebb and flow, I am delighted to be taking intentional time to focus on my young family, having just welcomed our second child. To support the needs and special time of life for my family we have relocated physically to Australia where I am pleased to continue to engage in the movement to end the suffering of animals.

Please know that Barn remains my priority and lifelong passion—this organization and its mission are deeply woven into who I am. This shift allows me to continue championing our cause while also meeting the current needs of our family.

At Barn Sanctuary, we envision a world where farmed animals are recognized as individuals, treated with compassion, and where plant-based, sustainable alternatives replace the use of animals for food and products. This vision continues to guide every step we take.

To help lead us forward with fresh energy and expertise, I’m thrilled to introduce Lori Kitchen-Buschel as our new Executive Director. Lori brings a wealth of experience, a deep-rooted passion for advocacy, and a bold vision for what’s possible. I couldn’t be more confident in her ability to lead Barn Sanctuary into its next chapter of growth and impact.

Together, Lori and I are a united force—committed to advancing our mission, expanding our reach, and building an even stronger future for the animals in our care and the movement we serve. With Lori’s leadership and my continued strategic involvement as Board Chair, Barn Sanctuary is poised for an exciting new era.

Also no need to worry because Tom is still onsite. He continues to share his knowledge on private tours, manage our merch, help with operations and so much more! Thank you for your continued support, love, and dedication. Our residents—and this movement—are stronger because of each and every one of you.
