Hi, I’m Sammie

Sammie was rescued alongside her brother, Mickie, and her mother, Frankie, in late August 2018. They were among the last animals rescued during the cruelty case in Lapeer County, Michigan.

During a final sweep of the barn on the property, her mother popped her head up over the edge of a filthy trough where they had been taking refuge. The three of them were brought to their forever home at Barn Sanctuary.

At the sanctuary, this sweet little family was given a fresh start. She and her brother, who could've both fit in the palm of your hands, began to grow - soon growing lager than their own mother. Sammie grew into a beautiful hen.. even though she never grew any neck feathers! Once she and Mickie were large enough, they were introduced to the other bantam couple, Napoleon and Natasha.

Sammie is quiet and very shy towards humans, but she loves making new chicken friends! She enjoys interacting with neighboring hens and spending time with her brother.
