Hi, I’m Rose

Rose arrived at Barn Sanctuary October of 2017. She and Ruth were our first sheep rescues. She was in a trailer being towed by a truck, whose driver decided to run from the police in what news stations later called a “high-speed chase.” The driver crashed the trailer during the chase, and several of the goats and sheep inside died from their injuries. Rose was one the lucky survivors. The drivers were charged with over 80 offenses, including animal cruelty.

Rose is a remarkable sheep. Even after experiencing the trauma of surviving a crash, she is unwaiveringly courageous, kind and protective. We lovingly refer to her as the “momma leader” of the goat and sheep barn. The other sheep like to follow her around the pasture, and she can be fiercely protective of her animal friends. When Mike was a calf and lived in the goat and sheep barn, Rose would ram the goats if they tried to pick on him.

Rose loves face scratches and if you’re lucky enough to earn her trust, she will use your leg as her personal head scratching post!
