Hi, I’m Mary Pete

In June of 2017, Barn Sanctuary received a call from Black Sheep Crossing Animal Sanctuary about two donkey families in need of a new home. Their caretakers, being in their 70s, were having a hard time caring for some of their larger animals and asked US to help find their donkeys a new forever home.

Knowing it would be hard to re-home 7 donkeys together, Barn Sanctuary agreed to take them ourselves. Mary Pete arrived with her cousins, Virginia, Sylvia, Siggie and Axle, and her friends Blossom and Beulah. Unfortunately, in December 2017, Virginia and Sylvia passed away from old age.

Mary Pete is often shy towards volunteers and other visitors. She tends to be protective of her friends, especially Siggie and Axle. She can be a little bit stubborn at times, but is still very sweet under her somewhat tough exterior. She loves playing around with her cousins and enjoys a good ear scratch or brushing.
