Hi, I’m Jim

Jim and his sister, Jill, are a rare breed of sheep that originated in Scotland, called Soay sheep. They were born on a Michigan farm in the harsh Winter of 2018, and Barn Sanctuary received a call to rescue them when they were five months old. We were told Jim and Jill were born with leg deformities. The pair would need special care to survive and live long healthy lives.

When we brought this duo home to the sanctuary, our vet visited them to perform a full check-up. It was immediately apparent to the vet that their deformities were not deformities at all, but injuries that resulted from extensive frostbite.

Jim and Jill were both shy and reserved at first. After a few months at the sanctuary, we were able to get them fitted for prosthetics so they can walk, run, and play like “normal” sheep. They also finally began to open up, becoming more friendly and comfortable around people.

Never again will Jim and Jill be left out in the elements. At Barn Sanctuary they are always warm, well-cared for, and loved.
