Hi, I’m Dwight

At a month old, Dwight was attacked by a coyote, which left his back leg broken. His owner at the time assumed it would heal on its own and His wounds were never treated. he spent the first year of his life limping, never learning to use his leg.

When we rescued Dwight in May, 2018, he was still hobbling on three legs. Since coming to Barn Sanctuary, he’s had surgery on his injured leg and undergone extensive physical therapy.  We tried several modalities to help him learn to put weight on his back leg again. We tried laser therapy as well as using a peg leg, in the hopes that these methods would help him heal and become accustomed to putting weight on his back leg. Nothing worked until we finally found a hydrotherapy facility that agreed to work with a cow.

After months of therapy, Dwight is now using his back leg! His mobility issues stunted his growth, so he is smaller than the other adult cows at the sanctuary, but with his healed leg he is finally able to join the herd and graze the pasture with the big kids.
