Hi, I’m Dexter

In Summer 2020, Dan was contacted about a female calf on a small hobby farm in Wisconsin who had been badly injured in a storm.

After having been born in the middle of the night and stuck under a rock in a ravine during a storm, Dexter’s leg was in brutal shape. When first looking at her wounds we thought amputation was the only option for this poor girl. Dan took her to Michigan State University and she underwent immediate surgery to remove any infection from her leg. After weeks of recovery and antibiotics, the acting veterinarian said the only way to save the leg is to fuse the joint altogether, which would act as a peg leg.

Dexter made a full recovery and on August 7, 2020, she finally moved to Barn Sanctuary.
