About Cora

DOB: April 20th, 2016

Cora (short for Corazon, ‘heart’ in Spanish) was Barn Sanctuary’s first rescued resident. Cora is a freemartin, meaning she is incapable of having babies. She was born onto a dairy farm and because of this and her size, was seen as having little value to the farmer, who chose to donate her to a school fundraiser. The intent was, whatever money Cora received at auction would be gifted to the school. A parent caught wind of this and bid on Cora until she won her, saving her from being slaughtered. She wanted to teach her children that Cora was worth more than what she could be sold or used for.
