Cora, short for “Corazon” (meaning “heart” in Spanish), got her name from the white heart shape on her forehead and her sweet and spicy attitude.
We love the story of how she arrived at Barn Sanctuary! She came to us from a local dairy farm. She’s what we call a freemartin, which in short means she is unable to produce offspring. As such, dairy farms consider freemartins useless in their industry. She was donated to a local school’s fundraiser to be auctioned off for proceeds, destined for meat processing. Thankfully, a mother at the school contacted us about rescuing her. She wanted to educate the children that death and beef is not the only option for young calves like Cora. With the help of the community and the compassion of one mother to take initiative, together we were able to save this young lady!
