2020 at Barn Sanctuary

Donate Now

2020 was a challenging year, but also one of hope and heart. We saved 80 lives this year, and shared our mission with over 350 million households around the globe — offering bright and heartwarming stories of rescue and relief.

The Impact of Your Support

Despite the challenges and changes we all faced collectively in 2020, Barn Sanctuary was still able to accomplish a lot this year thanks to your support. Scroll down to see some of our major strides in 2020.

Saved By The Barn Aired

In 2020 Saved By The Barn aired on Animal Planet, reaching over 350 million households worldwide. The TV show included 12 hour long episodes featuring our work rescuing farmed animals from cases of abuse and neglect. The show followed the individual stories of farmed animals we met and rescued in 2019. It showcased their struggles, lives and unique personalities.

More Exciting Milestones in 2020

From new online tours and events, to rescues and new residents at the sanctuary, we had a busy year.

New solar and wind power.

This year we took our first steps toward a 100% renewable energy future. We installed solar and wind powered electricity for the pig barn. We created our first community garden, where we will host future educational seminars about how plant-based eating reduces our impact on the environment and saves lives.

Rescued 80 animals.

Despite COVID, we were able to safely rescue 80 animals from cases of abuse, neglect and disaster. One of our major rescues from 2020 was from an egg laying farm in Iowa. The Iowa hen rescue was featured in Huff Post.

Tours, fields trips and summer camps.

This year we launched a variety of virtual tours, field trips and other online educational events! We had over 2,500 people and students from around the world join us for a tour or schedule a field trip to visit the sanctuary, meet the animals and learn about our mission.

Two new virtual events.

This year we organized two new events: the Auction For The Animals and MOOnster Mash 5k Fun Run. We had over 5,000 people participate to help us fundraise for farm animals!

Vegan pledges.

Over 360 people committed to going vegan during Easter & Thanksgiving through our holiday pledge campaigns.

Kitchen Companion meal planner.

This year we welcomed many more animal loving folk to plant-based lifestyle via our introductory meal planner, Kitchen Companion!

In Loving Memory…

While 2020 was full of wonderful progress and exciting new programs, we also lost a few very important and beloved residents at the sanctuary: Greg, Maria, Frankie, CJ, Florence, Cora Jr. and Lilo.

Thank you for your support this year and every year.

Barn Sanctuary

We rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected farmed animals by creating a safe haven where these individuals can recover and thrive.

We envision a world in which farmed animals are seen as individuals and treated with empathy and compassion.
