Jill and her brother Jim are a rare breed of sheep that originated in Scotland, called Soay sheep. They were born on a Michigan farm in the harsh Winter of 2018, and Barn Sanctuary received a call to rescue them when they were five months old. We were told Jill and her brother Jim were born with leg deformities. The pair would need special care to survive and live long healthy lives.

When we brought this duo home to the sanctuary, our vet visited them to perform a full check-up. It was immediately apparent to the vet that their deformities were not deformities at all, but injuries that resulted from extensive frostbite. Jill is missing the bottom halves of both of her back legs, as well as the tip of one ear.

Jill and Jim were both shy and reserved at first. After a few months at the sanctuary, we were able to get them fitted for prosthetics so they can walk, run, and play like “normal” sheep. They also finally began to open up, becoming more friendly and comfortable around people. Jill, though still nervous around human friends, has taken to Ruth and Rose, the other sheep residents at the Sanctuary. She is also never too far from her brother!

Never again will Jim and Jill be left out in the elements. At Barn Sanctuary they will be warm, well-cared for, and loved.

Sponsorships help us provide daily care, regular medical checkups and cover any unexpected emergency care costs for each animal. Sponsor Jill to help us provide the care she deserves!
